Microsoft Photosynth and the Integration of Social Media.

Man, technology is so dang cool. I believe in the near future, we’ll be able to take virtual tours of places around the world we have never been just because people have been there and the data will have been collected. The following videos show the realization of this idea coming to life.
Microfish anyone? I mean, seriously, this technology is taking the necessity for microfish completely out.

In addition, I would also just like to say a little about Social Media. It’s great for networking, but I think something like this is much more beneficial to society. Something that provides an experience for other users who’ve not been able to go to a particular site. How awesome!

And finally, this has a myriad of applications including it’s use in photobooths. I’m excited to see what happens in the future with regards to this. Virtual tours? Yes. Exciting.

TheBigSoda.com

This one is kind of interesting. I went to this car bashing, motorcycle jumping over a house party last weekend (it wasn’t really my gig, but I brought a Tagg projector there).

The reason I bring this up is because TheBigSoda.com was there. They have a very interesting concept. It’s simple, but effective. This is what they’ve been doing. They’ve been going to all the parties in the Salt Lake area and taking a bunch of pictures for free. They even set up little photo booths for the pictures. They then hand out cards after the pictures are taken directing the attendees to The Big Soda website.

Their site is super simple. It’s pretty much just a place where people who’ve attended these parties can go to look at the pictures that were taken of them and their friends. They guys I talked to, in particular a guy named Chris, said they’d received about 70,000 hits in the last two weeks since they started photographing the events. Not a bad idea! Implementation in other ways, particularly Tagg would be very awesome.
