"...Facebook may be gaining, but Google already has a base of Gmail subscribers worldwide that could trump the monkey."

Ok, so Google will advertise its brand Google wave through emarketing campaigns, and everyone who already is on Facebook and spent time building their relationships, groups, fan pages, etc will immediately drop Facebook to switch to Google Wave? I doubt it.

"Facebook doesn’t have search. Imagine what the Google search algorithm mixed with Wave will do?"

What does search have anything to do with this? People spend relatively little time on search, and most of their time on websites. The only value search engines offer are to FIND websites. People engaged in a social network environment are not interested in search during their "network" time, they want to network.

"Google’s revenues dwarf Facebook. More money for diversification? I guess Facebook did just get the influx from Russia…"

Too bad Facebook already has the market, thus any investment on a "me too business" will be useless. It's going to be nearly impossible to win over faithful Facebook members, unless Google offers something completely different. Threaded, and real time emails sound cool, but quite honestly, this is nothing but a more advanced function. This isn't an innovative business idea as a whole. How will the overall picture of Google Wave be different than Facebook?

"Facebook has apps, Google has applications. Think about it. Facebook is a good networking center, but I’m sorry Google just has too many applications that have more useful applications than Facebook."
Like what? The only useful application aside from search is Google Adwords, and Adsense. Ok, even if that statement was true, that Google has better applications. Facebook's apps are FUN. Google's apps are for business. Do you honestly think that people will leave Facebook for Google's boring business applications?

I honestly don't think Google Wave will kill Facebook, because Facebook is a market leader already. Google may have more capital, but Google's strength lies in searching for data, and advertising other people's innovations. Facebook's strength is that it has built is brand, and already has the market for general social networking. The only way Google Wave will kill Facebook, is if Google Wave serves a greater purpose than Facebook. The whole idea of a business is to address a need. Facebook solved this need quite well (connecting with friends in networks). Can Google really solve this same exact need even better? Or should Google look to address a different need?
